Gladiator Joe Story
“It’s a bizarre but wonderful feeling, to arrive dead center of a target you didn’t even know you were aiming for.”
― Lois McMaster Bujold –
I’m not sure how many times the invention of the trolley wheel has been used as example of something ‘simple’ but, at the same time with many degrees of complexity. Wheel, one of the oldest inventions ever made, only recently has been implemented in something that we have been using for quite a long time. Luggage.
But, why the mentioning of the wheel? Well, the type of thinking process that has been in place to create the first commercial monitor to VESA adapter ever created, was probably somehow close to the one that created the trolley wheel.
Forging the adapter
Technology has changed a lot since the first computer ever was built but, still sometimes to match the markets design demands or reduce the size of our device, manufacturers forget or just can’t add one or two features that at some point became necessary. The VESA compatibility is one of those.
So, back in 2011 I got my new Dell monitor, it was great, a nice piece of technology and still is. However, as you might expect, it was lacking a VESA attachment on the back and it’s stand wasn’t doing the job for me.
I had no choice but to make one, with the help of a friend, after few tries the design finally came to life. The GJ0A0001 was born.
The problem had it’s own solution, but as life teaches us, once one problem is solved, a new one awaits. In fact it did. Instead of getting one adapter for my monitor, I got 200 of them. That was the first step of Gladiator Joe. Placed them on eBay and in only two weeks they were gone for good. Seeing that I wasn’t the only one with this issue, needing a solution, Gladiator Joe Inc began.
Now, seven years later, in 2018, we are still running, with more products and lots of new ideas on the horizon, the only difference is the good and trustworthy team that is now part of Gladiator Joe Inc.
